Diversity Philosphy
I am passionate about advancing equity, diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism in higher education to include and support students from minoritized communities who will inevitably shape and hopefully revolutionize our field. I firmly believe that our field cannot advance without recognizing the value of scholars who speak from their own communities and experiences to inform their science.
One of the ways through which the institution enacts structural racism is through the “hidden curriculum,” or the set of unspoken rules, expectations, norms, values, and belief systems of the dominant-culture that governs successful outcomes in academic and other settings. The hidden curriculum heavily advantages those with the dominant-cultural capital, financial resources, and privilege to navigate it. I am committed to efforts towards both uncovering the hidden curriculum and dismantling the structures in place that perpetuate it.
